The Weekly Update 1/17

Hello hello!

AVATAR: THE WAY OF WATER topped the box office charts yet again, coming in at $31.1M, only dropping slightly from last weekend at 32%. We wouldn’t be surprised if it held in the top 3 for a few more weeks.

Universal’s M3GAN is turning out to be a horror hit bringing in $56.5M in only 10 days. It took second place for the weekend at $17.9M.

Lastly we have Universal and DreamWorks’ animated sequel PUSS IN BOOTS: THE LAST WISH in third place in its third week with $13.4M, only down only 1% from the previous weekend.

This weekend we have Sony’s Missing heading into theaters. It is a standalone sequel to the 2018 film Searching. The film stars Storm Reid and Nia Long and will premiere January 19th at the Sundance Film Festival with a theatrical release the next day.

Additionally we have an expansion of the Brendan Fraser led film, The Whale, hitting theaters.

The Mummy actor has drawn praise for his portrayal of a depressed and morbidly obese man in the film. Fraser is hotly tipped to get an Oscar nomination later this month and just picked up a Critics Choice award this past weekend. This could be a great awards season title.
